Superhero Comics are for EVERYONE!

I personally believe that anyone can like Superhero comics, and it’s not just limited to certain social-groups, age, gender and whatever.

In the past decade there’s been lots of release of Superhero-genre movies, in order to boost their comic book sales. It’s working alright! But I don’t think some people are still convinced/motivated enough to buy them. It’s probably because of the fact that the movies are directed and produced to create what the main-streamers want…

Hero strikes, Hero kicks ass of main villain, Hero gets in trouble (usually caused by the main villain), Hero resolves problem by kicking evil ass(es), Hero gets the girl/prize/serves good ol’ justice!

… and can’t risk to create something the audience might want to see. Basically because they want to make a hit film. And they also have limited time frame to work with as well as budget.

Movies have to end because it’s a story, but Comics are like soap-operas.

But comics, man!, they have all the time they want! Story-arcs can go on as long or as short as they want, and even have cross-overs, therefore having two superheroes working together. Characters can be developed continuously, giving them in-depth history to make ‘connections’ with the readers, as well as sudden revelations to make the readers go “WTFOMGBBQ! I didn’t see that coming!”. Relationships between characters will grow as years of publishing goes by, let it be friendships or romantic. Then there’s death, which will show mourning of close friends and family, and the readers will also be affected by this, because over the years of reading/character development there is bound to be attachments.

Death scenes in movies can be emotional, but it will not be anything remotely as close to Comics.

omg I must sound like a geek who wussy cries whenever fictional characters dies… I don’t! OKAY?

What I’m trying to say is, any thing’s possible in Comics!
But what most people with misconception of comics will say is… “Superhero comics are for children”
If someone says that, bitch-slap them. Were they living under a stone boulder for the past decade or two?
Yes, some comics are for children… like… the… uhh… Mickey Mouse? But comics like Pooche Cafe and Calvin and Hobbs are for both grown-ups, teens and kiddies. Superhero comics can too, be for those demographics, unless you want your 8 year old daughter reading out loud a bedroom scene or a scene of some guy getting mutilated by another… because that will be so wrong!

Your 8 year old daughter: “ohoh, ohhhhhh *sharp in-take of breath* ah! Don’t stop!!! ah, ah, ah! You’re so good, ooooooh~ oh my god!”

So if you think Superhero comics are for kids, you’re wrong, and you’re still under the impression of Golden age comics… That’s when Robin was swooping along Batman saying “Golly gee Batman!” or “Jumpin’ jiminy Batman! Look out of those ducklings!”

Aaand, when Batman fought and killed a cougar with his bare mits…

Now, that’s hardcore. Why doesn’t he do that anymore?

Moving on,…
I being a female comic reader, wants more girlies to read them!
Why?
So we can have girl talks about Super-males!

But what women or feminists will say, other than it’s boring because it’s mindless action, is “Super-females are depicted as skanks”. First they complain that there aren’t enough Super-female characters, and now this.
I actually do agree this statement to a certain extent. Take example of Starfire…

She might as well just wear stripper boots and a leaf on her vajayjay and each nipples.

This might be me just hating on her. *waves Nightwing flag*
But if I do think about this rationally, I think her costume is suitable. Why? Because the Superhero genre is targeted in men! Duh! Yes, that statement’s contradicting to my blog title.
But this doesn’t mean the women can’t enjoy reading comic books.

Lemme tell you why,
Apart from the fact that super-female costumes makes them look like space prostitutes (except for Batgirl who’s wearing Batbondage from the S&M club), most female of species are known to be insecure about their body image. But guess what, super-females have great physique! And in reality, like 5% of the whole female population will look as great as them.
We are just self-conscious.
Men on the other hand, are less self conscious. Of course some are, but there’s less of them compared to women. And they know that the super-lad’s physique are fictional and near impossible to obtain.

This is the part where I’ll tell you why women can enjoy Superhero comics…
Fucking hell are you ladies blind?! There are motherfucking hotties with great bodies running around only wearing spandex!

Men enjoys Super-females practically wearing nothing.
Women enjoys Super-hunks practically wearing nothing.

Do you think we (females) would enjoy reading comics with fat hairy men, only wearing briefs, round-house kicking bad guys? No, we wouldn’t… i know some of you would, but the majority wouldn’t.
Do you think men would enjoy reading comics about an obese florist kicking ass only wearing lingerie? No they wouldn’t.

So jesus christ women! Give the super-female hotties a break! Give some men something to imagine about. And get yourself a copy of whatever super-hunk caught your eyes, because you’re bound to enjoy it!

Don’t think fictional characters can be hot?

Maybe a playboy? … always one step ahead of ya

Fastest Man Alive? *wink wink*

Someone so mysterious that he won’t even tell you how he’s doing?

A cup of hot Cajun anyone?

Honey, the list can go on.

Are you a pedophile?
Lets check what Superhero comics have install for you!

Behind door number one if Billy Batson! He’s what? Still 12? Gifted with the power of Shazam, he can grow!
Bigger alright!, and also stronger.
Into the one, the only, Captain Marvel!

Behind door number two is boy wonder, Dick Grayson. But I think you’ll prefer him as the Golden age Robin.
He’s flexible… VERY flexible… because he’s an acrobat, duh!
And checkout those legs!

Last but not least, you think gay Superheroes don’t exist?
You’re wrong.

Take Midnighter and Apollo, they are both regulation super-hotties. Sadly, they’re gay. Matter of fact, they’re happily married.

… and they both kick ass.

And there’s also the lesbian hard-ass cop, Renee Montoya!

*ahem*
So in conclusion, wow this scarily sounds like my school report, Comics should appeal to everyone because it’s content is so broad that it touches everything. It basically also covers most “taboo” subjects that movie producers will be wavery about.
At this point, I can’t be bothered to type anymore. So I’ll make it brief… If you haven’t recently picked up any superhero comics, go out and buy one. It’s not all Batman and Superman. There’s something for everyone.

:)

((I just realized I need a Part 2. So uh… coming soon?))

My Favourite Comics, Part 2!

Posted in All Blogs, Cartoon, Comics, DC Comic, Favourites, Nightwing, Outsiders, Teen Titans, Young Justice with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 27, 2008 by Mao

As mentioned in Part 1, I mostly enjoy reading Team Superhero Comics!
Just the idea of each indivisual with different superpower coming together and working together, is.just.plain.AWESOME! I do enjoy wrestling, especially tag-teams. It’s like… with a help of another person, they can do something completely new and extreme with their powers.

Gotta love ’em WonderPets!

So, my favourite teams…

Young Justice

Teenage Superheroes! Tons of bickering, hormones and humor! Good read if you’re up for laughs. They were the first Super-team TPB I bought (JLA: World WIthout Grownups), in which 3 completely different teenagers (Robin, Superboy and Impulse) comes together.

Robin (Tim) … being Batman’s protege, is the mature and level-headed of the bunch, and naturally becomes the leader.
Superboy (“Conner”) … thinks with his manhood, arrogant and a bit cocky. But he does mature by the time he’s a part of the Teen Titans.
Impulse (Bart) … boy oh boy. His name is self-explanatory: impulsive! Immature AND reckless. But he keeps the series humorous. :) He is a good kid!

*remembers great Impulse scenes from JLA: WWG*
*quickly scans*

Impulse owning young Joker
… and
… and

Nazi Dinosaurs from Venus. Greaaat~…

Although all 3 of thier personalities gratly differs, they come together and kicks some evil hiney! And their dynamics is what makes the short-lived series brilliant :)
Ofcourse, later on in the series they are joined by other super-teens…. Secret, Wondergirl, Arrowette, Empress and Slobo (who’s a kid version of Lobo xD).

Teen Titans –I bet you didn’t see the coming! *sarcasm*
So it’s basically 4 members from Young Justice, joining the 4 old members of the Teen Titans. And Impulse becomes Kid Flash during this series! Awesome costume change too <3 He becomes more intelligent after he reads the whole San Fransico library in under 20 minutes, and matures a lot. BUT! He’s still the most nicest guy in the team, sweet boy :)

Brownie point for you Bart!

Superboy, Kon-El, Connor Kent, starts Smallville High School and also gets a costume change.
He goes from wearing a sexified Superman costume + leather jacket + ear-ring…

To wearing a… well… plain black shirt with Supe’s logo

… his hair reminds me of Forest Gump

Wait, lemme grow some more hair on him…
It’s the small change that counts!

Ugh.
But I guess Superboy looks more like a “civilian” now (I hope that’s the image he was going for), and maybe a bit retarted.
Still love ya Connor!

Hah, look at what I just found!

Creepy… indeed…
… and something’s very wrong with Starfire’s head… Ohright , it’s just bent 45ยบ to her left.
Why couldn’t Cartoon Network/Kids WB just get some people to cosplay as them? and instead used cheap China labour to manufacture the Teen Titans suit? I guess we’ll never know.

Oh, and speaking of Starfire. SLUTTY!
Her suit barely covers her titties nor ass. Wait, it doesn’t even cover her ass, but only her butt-crack.
Gotta admit, neat picture…

De-railing here!
Gotta focus on how awesome Teen Titans are.

I just think I love them Teen Titans (Gotta buy the Titans TPB when it’s out! Wally, Dick and Troia in the same series again!)… AHHH, see what I keep doing here? I just keep getting distracted by stupid pop-ups in my head!

I just think I love them Teen Titans because I love(ed) Young Justice! Eventhough I didn’t growup reading weekly issues of Young Justice nor Teen Titans, I did come across Young Justice first. And I really grew into them. And few years later I decided to give Teen Titans a shot. It took me a while to pick the title up because of the image the cartoon version embedded in my head.
No offense… I do enjoy watching the cartoon series. But I wouldn’t pay to read the comic series (except for the issue in which Kid Flash races against Mas y Menos).
If you enjoy Teen Titans, checkout Tiny Titans!

(Superboy has to take care of Krypto, the Superdog.)

mhm, so…

Go Titans!

and finally…

Outsiders –

Unlike most super-teams, the team isn’t family based and more “work” based. This was so that they wouldn’t be emotionally involved with each other.
I think that’s pretty cool :D
They get paid to serve Justice!

I basically purchsed The Outsiders, for the sake of seeing Nightwing in-action and working in a team. But I didn’t get what I was expecting.
This is usually the part in which I tell you about how much more Nightwing proved to be and how awesome he is.
But I’m not gonna.
Because Nightwing was basically like a piece of toast.

He’s edgy, nicely toned, but just plain boring!

Maybe he’d be a Virgin Mary Toast. He’s nice to look at…

… He’s also a great leader (given the fact that his team could sometimes be full of naggy folks).

So I guess that would make him a great leader toast.

and watch ’em go COMMANDO!

.

.

.

But I got a plesant suprise from the other Outsider members! Grace (red haired girl) is a juggernaut! She’s unbelivably bitchy, but she’s hilarious and an awesome character! Another character which I didn’t expect to like was Shift, the clone of Metamorpho. He’s a “nice guy” and has this Ooomph-gene in him which just made me like him!

… And this is one of the coolest tag-team scenes I’ve ever seen!
Grace and Thunder! Grace has metahuman strength, and Thunder can change her body density.
They catch a jet, an effing jet! Thunder gets as dense as she can, and hangs onto Grace as she catches the jet (Grace is also able to heal really fast).

My awesome scanning skill hacked off the side…
Grace: “Good, we’re right on target”
Thunder: “This is so stupid! We’re just gonna die, Grace! Look at the size of the plane! It’ll just roadkill us all the way to the upper West side!”
Grace: “Shut up, just shut up your prissy sorority-girl cake hole, okay?!”
… and the rest, you can read for yourself :)

Outsiders is full of swear words, semi-nudity, extremeness… and i love it! It’s great to know that superheroes have sex life yanno?
How I know they do?
Well checkit!

In vol. 2 , they go at it again.
And the Peqod is the name of their jet.

The sad thing about this series is that the 1st and the 2nd volume of the TPB is great! But from there it slowly goes downhill. I haven’t collected all TPB of the Outsiders, I’m just not sure if it’s worth getting them anymore.

Maybe Nightwing, … maybe…

Runaways will probably make it onto this list in a few weeks time, when I can actually get my hands on them! I gotta wait till my next pocket-money day, and it takes up to 2 weeks for the orders to arrive! ARGH! I’m sure it’s gonna be a great read, unless all reviews that I’ve read were full of bullshit.
I’ll see how it goes.

Now, lets talk about My Favourite Comics.

Posted in All Blogs, Cartoon, Comics, DC Comic, Favourites, Justice League/Unlimited, Teen Titans, The Flash with tags , , , , , , , , on July 27, 2008 by Mao

I started WordPress 3 days ago. I already have 5 blog entries.

But not once have I talked about my favourite Superhero… yet

I will, now.

THE FLASH!

Most under-rated Superhero ever!

Who is he?
The Flash, duh. The Fastest Man Alive. The Scarlet Speedster. MY FAVOURITE SUPERHERO!

Which Flash is my favourite? WALLY WEST OFCOURSE!
I get so hyped everytime I talk about him.
x]

You might think he looks camp in red fullbody spandex, but the man filling the suit is so lovable! I love the family aspect of him! All the speedsters are somehow connected (by blood or not), and he mentors his own kids to become great superheros! He’s one of the most relatable character in the DCU too, as he was a normal kid, and got his power by pure luck & his power is to run REALLY fast (tap into the SpeedForce!).

I can do what Flash does, he just does it better!

… dat ass!
(God, i love Google)

The Flash’s comics are the only single-superhero comic I read, along with Bart’s run as the Flash and Impulse (Impulse… one-word: LOL!) . The rest of my TPBs are basically team superhero comics.
What can I say, i love Flash!

Hmmm… lets talk about him in cartoons. I do enjoy his cocky, arrogant and flirty persona in the Justice League/Unlimited cartoon series. His one-liners are fuckin’ hilarious! Eventhough that’s more down Elongatedman’s department in the comics, DCAU’s Flash is equally as awesome :) ohoh, and Kid Flash in Teen Titans (cartoon series), thought by many fans to be Wally West too, has such a cute boyish-flirty speedster!
And The Flash in The Batman cartoon series? I only watched one episode with him in it. I heard he’s supposed to be Barry Allen? … and The Flash not being voiced by Michael Rosenbaum was slightly awkward :p

If you love The Flash and haven’t watched JLU nor Teen Titans, watch…
Justice League Unlimited – Flash and the Substance
Teen Titans – Lightspeed

… I guarantee you, that you’ll love it!

and just to make it clear… I do love Batman, Nightwing, Arsenal, Superboy, Gambit etc. But the level of my support and fandom for The Flash will always be a notch higher than them.
