Mao’s Aemazing movie night – Cube

Posted in All Blogs, Life, Movies with tags , , , , , , , on September 13, 2008 by Mao

I came up with an awesome idea of having a movie night with Aeizzle.

“Ae lives all the way in the US, and you live in HK, so how does this work?”

All we do is go onto msn, choose a movie to watch, and make it go in sync.
Get a popcorn while we’re at it!
It’s actually just like watching a movie with a friend, but there’s more talking since we type instead of talk.

And if I get a webcam we’re gonna have facial expressions :)

*****

So i chose the first movie; Cube (1997)

Watch it here!

“Six different people, each from a very different walk of life, awaken to find themselves inside a giant cube with thousands of possible rooms. Each has a skill that becomes clear when they must band together to get out: a cop, a math whiz, a building designer, a doctor, an escape master, and a retard. Each plays a part in their thrilling quest to find answers as to why they’ve been imprisoned.”

Basically a Saw-esque film.

A low budget film, un-known casts, but damn! It’s actually an amazing movie. Tons of twists and turns. Literally made me say “Say whaaat?!”, on msn; “omg!” or “x.x!!!”.

Near the end of the film, true colours of the characters are revealed. Lets just say they turn out to be the opposite of what they were.

Just expect the unexpected xD

I also believe that the cube itself represents the many different sides of people. He told me to add that because it sounds so clever! :D

And the colours of each rooms evokes the emotions, as well as building tensions. The director’s amazing at building-up tension!

By the end of the film you’ll sit back in your chair, slumped, and think to yourself how far the characters have come since the beginning of the film… and reflect on your mathematical skills…

The only thing we didn’t like much was the ending.
It. made. me. go. ugh!

WARNING!
From here onwards it may contain SPOILERS and traces of nuts

So what we learned from this film is…
– Don’t doubt our gut-feeling
– HxC people always die first, so don’t be HxC
– Lie down in a fetal position and don’t move
– Stay in school and study math
– All autistic people are Rainman; bribe them with gum drops
– Black people are ninjas; agility and stealth-wise
– Long dialogues will result to your death
– Love does not conquer all

Basically I REALLY enjoyed Cube…. and here’s Ae’s aemazing thought;

ae の発言:
it ws pretty good
ae の発言:
found the black guy useless though
ae の発言:
besides bossing them
ae の発言:
his purpose was to show discord among them
ae の発言:
since he was the only person with something to lose
ae の発言:
oooo
ae の発言:
=]
ae の発言:
my two cents
Bow Wow Mao? の発言:
dayum ae
Bow Wow Mao? の発言:
you good

We both ended-up agreeing that his actions can be justified due to his desperation to escape, and return to his family. Who knows, maybe we might end-up doing the same thing as him.

But I know I’ll probably stay in one room, cry to myself, and survive… hah! :)

We’re going to watch Survive Style 5+ next!

According to Ae it’s a Japanese-Tarantino type film. Which is an automatic winner for awesomeness!

Today was full of DC-awesomeness!

Posted in All Blogs, Batman, Cartoon, Comics, DC Comic, Nightwing, The Brave and The Bold with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 6, 2008 by Mao

FOUR awesome DC Comics awesomeness happened to me today.
and I didn’t even buy any comics!

Plus, I was indoors for the whole day. Yay! A typhoon was passing by Hong Kong, and it was MADNESS outside.

So how was I granted DC Comics awesomeness even though I was up to my geekerky for the whole day?

1.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold!

I guess it’s aimed at little kids… but dude, it’s awesome. Just watch the trailer all right?!
Was it awesome, or was it AWESOME?!
Basically, Batman teams up with other superheroes every episode. Not just Blue Beetle, Ollie without his beard and Elastic Man. But also with Jonah Hex (wtf, didn’t see the coming), Green lantern Corp, Flash etc. (crossing finger for Nightwing!)

and dontcha just love the music? It’s like those 70s/80s lounge songs. And strangely, the first thing that came in mind was Cowboy Bebop and Lupin the 3rd.

So uh… the first DC awesome thing that happened to me today was finding, watching and enjoying the trailer of Batman: The Brave and The Bold.

2. and 3.

and

I ordered DC shirts from Animation Shops!
… well I technically didn’t, because they don’t ship to Hong Kong *shakes fist*. So I pretty pleased my brother (with a cherry on the top of course) who lives in Japan, to buy it for me! And guess what, IT WORKED!

I’m OVER THE MOON!

I wanted The Flash shirt for SO long, but the other site I was planning on purchasing it from only had XL. I was mega bummed. But then I came across Animation Shop. So yay for me!

But my brother tends to take his time to send parcels… so I won’t be expecting it anytime soon.

I’m still happy tho :D
*does the happy dance*

4.

I finally convinced my mom to buy me Batman: Gotham Knight on Amazon (Japan)! … and it’s the Japanese DVD version, so I guess the menu’s in Jap but everything else is the same as the English version?

I hope so.

I would’ve bought it at HMV/CD shop, but I couldn’t effing find it! I went around most DVD shops I know the day it was released, but they didn’t have it. I went again next week to check, they didn’t have it. The week after that, nada. I must’ve appeared severely lame.
Yeah, I was annoyed. They had the new Birds of Prey DVD, but not Gotham Knight.

Ok, in a nutshell; it’s six Batman adventure in six different art style. Imagine Animatrix, then throw Batman into the picture,… and take away the whole Matrix story.

Tell me that doesn’t look hardcore!

I’m hoping that it would be great! It looks awesome, so I’m like 80% sure it’s gonna be brill!

And guess what I’m looking forward to tomorrow!

I’m going to my weekly visit to the comic book shop! *does happy dance again!* :D Hopefully the TPB I ordered is there, and along the way I’ll pick up Nightwing #147.
Hey, I thought it would be an awesome timing to jump into Nightwing monthlies. It’s a 4 issue Batman R.I.P. tie-in, and Two-Face probably plays a big role by the look of the cover!

and in #149, he fights against all of Batman’s rogues! It’s gonna be insane! and awesome!

I’ll also pick up Final Crisis: Rogue’s Revenge #1 for the sake of Flash. Hopefully the comic book store still has some left! :x

Awesome count: 9
I shall refrain from using that word in my next post.

Death, Resurrection and Roll-ups

Batman fans will know that there’s a ‘Batman RIP‘ thing going on.

and it’s jingle goes something like…

Are you ready for “Batman R.I.P.”?

Who will live? Who will die? Who will be Batman?
The answers are sure to shock you in “Batman R.I.P.,”

*bites nails*
Shit son, I’m not ready!
As stupid as this may sound, I don’t want to find out what happens! I don’t want anyone to die, especially none of the Bat-family. And there’s been an on-going debate on who makes a better Batman; Nightwing or Robin. Sorry Damian, you’re out of the picture!

… and just to make it clear, Damian is Batman’s genetic son. Oh the family drama!

I just think Nightwing should stay as Nightwing. Robin (Tim) should stay as a sidekick/partner. Damian’s too ninja-like,… and isn’t he younger than Tim? Jason Todd (Red Robin), I don’t really like him, and I think he still has cooties/the evils.

Unless the next Batman’s gonna be female!
Barabara, original Batgirl, crippled, out of the picture. Current Batgirl, Cassandra, her being Batman’s a little too awkward. … Huntress? HUNTRESS, SMASH!!!!! nahhh….
Or maybe Batwoman? I never read any of her runs, so I have no idea what she’s like. And I don’t like the name Batwoman, it’s three syllables, a bit hard to cry for help yanno? “BAT-MAN!!!” “BAT-GIRL!!!” “BAT-wo-MAN!!!“.
In Final Crisis: Revelations (#1 out in Aug 13th), she’s returning from wherever she was, and she looks damn fine!

What I’m trying to say is,
I prefer Bruce Wayne as Batman. He’s the perfect creep to fill-up the suit.
I don’t follow the Bat-series, and I’m not intending too. I’ll just read the final spoiler (“Who will be Batman”), or get someone to spoil it for me.

If you’re interested, here’s the pull-list for Batman R.I.P.

Checkout Nightwing #149 , he goes against Batman’s rogue gallery… like all of them at once! I think it’s gonna be SHWEEEEET, must buy!

Lets make this clear.
I’m not hating on Barry.
Most people seems to like the Silverage Barry.
But DUDE! It’s time to MOVE ON!

Maybe he’s going to be used as a plot device instead of taking Wally’s mantle as The Flash. Well, I’m cool with that. Or maybe his return is temporary, and he goes back to where ever La-La Land his residence’s at. I’m also cool with that.

But I will not be cool if Barry brings his old ass back into the picture, and decides to steal Wally’s costume!!!

Fuck! I’ll be so pissed.
I’ll be SO pissed that I will run downstairs, dig-up all of the nicely planted flowers, grab the closest tree and swing it into civilians, drink up all the swimming pool water so no one can swim for the rest of the Summer, kick down all the apartment-buildings and cause a domino effect, do the Canary-Cry and blowup the closest airplane flying, and HULK OUT and go on a murderous RAMPAGE!
… or maybe I’ll just rant on my blog.

I would be equally as pissed if Wally has to become ‘Kid Flash‘ again.

… we’ll see how it goes *gives off the evils*

I’m like totally sway with Jay being The Flash, because he has a different costume. And he also has a different set of friends (JSA). Plus he’s old. I like old people.

But other then that, I’m glad that ol’ speedster’s alive. :) I wonder what major Flash plot-line he’s gonna bring along.

AHA!

Ledger’s Joker vs. The Joker

Posted in All Blogs, Batman, Comics, DC Comic, Joker, Movies with tags , , , , , , , on July 28, 2008 by Mao

I REALLY wonder how many Dark Knight reviews are out there by now. They’re all like a broken record, repeating the same thing over and OVER again (with exceptions of few critical reviews)… and my eyebrow twitches every time I see a new one.

*twitch twitch*

But what’s most common about all reviews are the standing ovations to Heath Ledger’s great performance as The Joker.

What I’ve seen and read about Ledger’s Joker is that he is “dark”, constanly blowing cars up and lacks telling jokes.

Doesn’t look too happy either.

In contrary, …
What I know of The Joker (the comic Joker), he’s supposed to be more ‘happier’ to a point it’s insane!, yet with grim and dark schemes. He’s supposed to give off an eerie vibe of madness!
He laughs and cracks jokes as he fucks people’s lives up! He smiles as he bashes Robin (Jason) to death with a crowbar. He laughs as he shoots and paralyzes Batgirl. He starts laughing hysterically even if he’s in a boo-boo.
And that’s a bloody hard thing to do!

But where’s the insanity Heath?

Maybe I’m being over critical.
You gotta know that Joker is the sole villain who can question the audience, of Batman’s sanity. After all, both of their lives got pretty screwed up. One was a failing comedian whose pregnant wife died, and the other’s parents got shot and killed right in front of his eyes. The only difference is that Batman manifests his insanity in a different way: by dressing-up as a Bat and fighting crime! There’s only a thin line between Batman and Joker
… one can crack a joke, and the other can’t.

All I’m saying. Ledger’s Joker could have loosenedup a little more. Get clownin’ around!

,,,

So the lesson of the day kids, smile at everything and anyone!
